Design of a Herbal Products Store in Volos – 20 sq.m
This small-scale herbal products store, located in the center of Volos, is conceived as an architectural gesture of suspension, a spatial interpretation of the way herbs are hung to dry before being transformed into healing remedies. In this space, plants, materials, and objects appear to float, echoing the poetic weightlessness suggested by the store’s name: Herbaluna.
The design draws from traditional craft practices, particularly the hanging of aromatic herbs, while also embracing a sense of lightness and airiness. The 20 square meters space is developed vertically: dark-toned metal frames are suspended from the ceiling, forming a structural grid that supports both display and storage. Wooden surfaces are integrated in a flexible manner, creating a composition that resembles a light, aerial construction, a suspended metal hut for herbs.
Hanging lighting fixtures further enhance this narrative of gravity-defying space. The storefront becomes a visual threshold, where floating decorative elements welcome visitors into an environment that feels rather ceremonial than commercial.
In contrast to the suspended elements, the working counter serves as a grounded focal point, a place where the owner remains “anchored” while carrying out the handmade processes of preparation, production, and packaging.
Materials were chosen for their tactility and simplicity, deliberately avoiding gloss and artificial finishes. The interplay of metal and wood embodies the union of handcrafted authenticity with architectural lightness, resulting in a space where use and form are inseparable.
Floated Act is more than a design concept, it is a quiet proposal for a different way of consuming, connecting, and producing.
